Kiwicoast Lions' Book Fair is coming on Matariki Weekend

Te Puke Kiwicoast Lions Club members have worked tirelessly since January to gather and classify thousands of books.

Their efforts will be rewarded next week with the club's 29th annual book fair, which will take place throughout Matariki Weekend from June 28 to 30.

This year, there will be more books than ever before thanks to donations from two other Lions clubs in the district, which has required the assistance of friends and relatives.

"Club members are grateful to have the help of Nick [de Hoog] who picks up the books from the Te Puke drop-off spots and does the heavy lifting during the book sorts, and to the partners who help out when needed," adds Maxine Shanks, the club's convenor.

"Paper Plus Te Puke has been quite helpful in printing all of the flyers that have been distributed across town, and the club is very appreciative for their assistance.

"Mpac have also been extremely helpful with providing sponsorship for the advertising."

The Te Puke High School first XI football team will assist the club with set-up.

"These boys not only help set up the tables, but they also lift all of the book boxes for the ladies. Without them, the book fair would be impossible."
On Sunday afternoon, the Te Puke High School first and second XI hockey teams will assist the club with pack down.

"These teams are adjusting their training schedules to assist us."

"There are books for all ages so go along during the weekend, get some winter reading or puzzles, DVDs, CDs or LPs and support the club's latest project."
Te Puke Memorial Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on June 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 29, and 9 a.m.
